The name you use both artistically and as your personal name is Sara Deop. Did you think that it was the best name to put yourself artistically or at some point did you think of the idea of giving yourself a different name?
It is true that we spent a long time thinking about different stage names, but what happens is that the last name Deop is rarely seen. And since I had not heard it, it sounded like a good idea for it to be a little different, since it is not a name that anyone can have. In the future I may change it, you never know, but now I like it the way it is.
There are 14 songs this year at Benidorm Fest, do you have any other favorite songs apart from yours?
I have analyzed them all very well and I still can't say which one is my favorite. Because the truth is that I like them all. The one that I have been able to listen to the most is Eco from XEINN, but even so, I would not be able to tell you who I think can win the Benidorm Fest, they all have a very good and high level and I could not choose.
Had you thought about representing Spain before?
I never thought that this opportunity would come to me, apart from now that I am still super young, it has been a blast and I did not expect it at all and everything has gone super fast. I was just beginning to release my first songs and suddenly the Benidorm Fest came across me like a storm and I still can't quite believe it. Also at such a young age, I had not even considered it. It may be that perhaps in a few years I could come up with it, but now, it has been quite a surprise, although I think it is a very cool experience that I need to take advantage of now.
All the songs are receiving a lot of streams and are having quite a success for a first year, did you expect the impact that you are having being the first year of the festival?
The truth is that no, because I didn't know much about the Benidorm Festival years ago and when they told me that it was going to come back, I thought it was cool. Even so, I thought that it would only be a gala or something like that and suddenly I find myself with this wave of eurofans, and that there are many people super excited and involved in this and I did not expect it at all and it makes me even more excited.
Before your participation in the Benidorm Fest, did you follow Eurovision? And do you have any reference or performance that you remember?
I have always watched the galas with my mother in the living room, and I loved watching it. I enjoyed it and it was super special for me because I love the whole theme of the stages and I said: Imagine what that great experience must be like in front of all of Europe; so yes, I followed it. And although our staging for the Benidorm Fest has nothing to do with anything that has gone through the festival, the one I like the most about Eurovision is Fuego by Eleni Foureira.
How did Make you say come to you? How did you receive the song?
The song came to me, and when it came I knew that this had to be the song because I knew that it sounds like Eurovision and also has a lot of potential and I also love it because it also has a Latin touch. So, when I heard it I knew I had to go with that to enjoy it and represent it to the fullest to see what happens.
The people who close the semifinals usually go very strong and you are the one in charge of closing the second, do you think you are going to surprise?
I don't want to say anything but I am very happy to close the semi-final.
If you are not chosen to go to Turin, what projects do you have for the future?
I was just starting, in November I started to release my first song, so we have everything we had planned to do. The Benidorm Fest has gotten in the way, but the road continues and we have many things planned to do, so I'm very excited because some things are coming.
And how is your relationship with the rest of the participants? Does the WhatsApp group exist with the them?
It's very good, we are like a big family. And the group it exists, yes. We are all united except for Azúcar Moreno, who have not joined the group and we are having a hard time finding them. I have added them all to my contacts but it is still difficult for me with Unique, Tanxugueiras or Varry Brava to differentiate who is who when they speak because as they are groups, sometimes we forget that each one has its own user.
