The first semi-final of Eurovision 2022 took place on Tuesday with 17 countries competing. Of those 17 countries, 10 managed to win a place in Saturday's grand final.

Opening the gala was Ronela Hajati, representing Albania. With her song Sekret she filled the stage with the colours blue and pink, but unfortunately she did not manage to win a place in the final.

The second to perform were Citi Zēni representing Latvia, who, after not being allowed to say the word "pussy" due to the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, got the whole audience to chant it. Unfortunately, they did not make it to the final either.

The third person to perform was Monika Liu, representing Lithuania. She did make it through to the final with a very intimate, beautiful performance, despite the fact that the cinematic sun arches on the stage failed her.

In 4th position was Switzerland, represented by Marius Bear, and it was one of the surprises of the night, as it was the first country to qualify for the grand final. But it was a country that many said was not going to qualify according to the betting.

Performing in 5th place was the Slovenian group LPS, who unfortunately also failed to make it to the final. The highlight of their song was a giant disco ball that they placed in the middle of the stage.

In 6th position came the big betting favourites, Kalush Orchestra representing Ukraine. With the song Stefanía, dedicated to the mother of one of the group's performers, they made it through to the final.

After Ukraine came Bulgaria, the group Intelligent Music Project with the most rocking song of the whole semi-final, which was full of a lot of fire and some super funny and unique moments. Unfortunately, they missed out on the final.

It was the turn of the Netherlands, who brought S10 with the song De Diepte, a song sung in the official language of the Netherlands, who made it through to the final after much uncertainty, as they were the last country to be announced.

To close the first half of the first semi-final, it was the turn of Moldova, who, with a group performing for the third time at Eurovision, made it to the final for the third time. They presented a very fun, danceable, colourful song, which made the whole stadium dance, and even everyone who was watching the gala from home.

In charge of opening the second half of the semi-final was Maro, representing Portugal, who performed the song Saudade. Saudade. It was a very intimate performance and they managed to get through to the final.

After Maro's performance, it was the turn of Mia Dimšić, representing Croatia, who performed a song called Guilty Pleasure. The song had a Taylor Swift vibe to it, as she is the singer's biggest inspiration. And for me it was quite a chaotic performance on stage. No wonder she didn't make it to the grand final.

The next to perform were the Danish group Reddi, who brought a proposal that started as a ballad and ended up being a super enjoyable and danceable rock song, but, unfortunately, they didn't manage to get through to the final.

Then it was the turn of LUM!X with Pia Maria, who failed to qualify for the final representing Austria. Unfortunately, Pia Maria's vocals were not 100% in any of the passes and rehearsals she did during the whole week. Therefore, I was not surprised that they did not qualify, even though I personally would have liked to have seen them in the final.

After Austria's electronic song, it was the turn of the Icelandic sisters Systur, who were another of the big surprises of the night, as they made it through to the final when nobody expected them to. And they did it with a very simple, but very effective song.

Then it was Greece's turn, represented by Amanda, who brought the valadon par excellence of the night. The staging was spectacular, with chairs that were melting and vocally she was spectacular. Very well deserved the pass to the final

The penultimate performers were Norwegian duo Subwoolfer, who, as yet, the identity of the 2 people performing inside the costumes is unknown. The song was very funny, as in all the shows they have done, and without any doubt, they made it through to the grand final, in which they will perform in the first half of the final.

Finally, the person in charge of closing the semi-final was the Armenian Rosa Linn, who after having gone from singing in TikTok and in the streets of Armenia, to representing the country. She managed to qualify for the grand final, after a streak of non-qualifications for the country.
